Rest.

I was struggling to come up with the perfect title for this post. So many titles popped up in my mind, but I chose to just stick to Rest. In this season of my life, I’m committing to be more intentional about rest.

I'm reading through Priscilla Shirer's Awaken Devotional. I read Day 30’s entry entitled ‘One-Track Mind’ last week and I've been meditating on it ever since because it stuck out to me just that much. Too often, we are committing to and doing SO MANY things. We're burnt out and exhausted and we're constantly wondering WHY! It is because God hasn't called us to do all of that! I LOVE the example she gave of Jesus, who had more pressure on Him than we can ever fathom, and how He chose to do what His Father told Him to do rather than 'falling victim to the tyranny of the urgent” (pg. 120). Whew. I pray this truth convicts you as it convicted me to my core. We're all called to specific assignments by our Father. Nothing more and nothing less. Let's be ladies who are intentional about completing God's will for OUR lives, not anyone else’s. Don’t strive so hard to keep up with everyone else is doing that you miss the mark.

In John 17, known as the High Priestly Prayer, Jesus is praying to His Father for Himself, His disciples, and all of those who would believe in Him. He prays “I have glorified You on the earth by completing the work You gave me to do.” (Verse 4, Holman Christian Standard Bible). Jesus was confident that He completed the work His Father specifically gave HIM to do. How many of us can say the same thing?

You weren’t called to constantly walk around exhausted, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled. Rest in His purpose for you. Ask the Lord to lead you to what you need to be working on to fulfill His assignment for you. This may even mean being faithful with caring for your family or even working diligently at your full-time job. Be confident in knowing that the Lord has a specific plan FOR YOU.
